Andy Marx
Before becoming a lawyer Andy Marx was a fisherman whose love of fishing evolved into becoming a captain and running a charter fishing boat in Southern California. Andy’s legal career led him to Mount Shasta in 1996 where he lives and works as a public defender for Siskiyou County. Andy’s trout fishing in the waters surrounding Mount Shasta evolved into pursuing Steelhead, both personally and as a flyfishing guide, primarily along the middle section of the Klamath River.
Andy’s time on the middle Klamath developed an intimate relationship with and desire to restore the Shasta River, which enters the Klamath near Yreka. In 2018 extremely low summer flows and sights of stressed Chinook at the mouth of the Shasta began Andy’s grass roots restoration campaign, Friends of the Shasta River. As the Shasta River Steward Andy is on a mission to restore this special river’s role as the once most productive Klamath River wild salmon and steelhead nursery.
