Remembering Conservation Giant Bruce Hill
Bruce Hill (1946-2017)
This past week the world lost Bruce Hill, a conservation champion, and inspirational human. Bruce was a dedicated advocate and fighter for wild, native fish who contributed some of the most instrumental conservation efforts in British Columbia; including protecting the Kitlope Valley, part of the largest remaining continuous extent of intact temperate rainforest in North America, protecting the Sacred Headwaters of the Skeena, Nass, and Stikine Rivers, the moratorium on fish farms on BC’s north coast, fisheries management reform, and numerous other achievements. Bruce recognized that great conservation efforts have no boundaries.
In 2013, the Native Fish Society honored Bruce with our first ever Lifetime Achievement Award. Yvon couldn't make the banquet but shared some great memories of Bruce and his passionate work to protect the Kitlope. Bruce set the standard for, “doing maximum good while having maximum fun.” He was a big personality and lover of life, family, good wine, and good food, and he continues to be an exceptional role model for many. Thank you, Bruce, for your monumental dedication and passion for conservation and for inspiring so many.
Contributions to conservation can be made in Bruce’s name at Skeena Wild.
